About Us

Our Story

The idea for Brentwood Church was not generated from a master plan or a group of well-equipped church planters.  Instead, it was born out of the heart of a newlywed college student named Jon Dupin (lead pastor), his wife and an unlikely team of beginner families, some retired widows and a cluster of college students.  Together, we shared a common angst to see a spiritual community formed for people who did not go to church.

We launched our first gathering in February 1999 with the goodwill and resources of a church that was closing its doors for good.  We initially met in the modest church building just south of Lynchburg, Virginia.  There wasn’t much fanfare in our first encounter, but a lot of anticipation for the future.  Soon, hundreds began to pile into the quaint meeting place.  The message of Jesus and a call to embrace his mission in every part of life was the prevalent theme in each meeting.  People were joining our little gang of optimists and growth happened rapidly.  Crowds overpowered our small building in multiple services until the unproven leadership team took a prayerful risk; we sold the building, bought land and met in a high school for nearly three years.

In the fall of 2004, Brentwood began a new chapter in a new building; and although the aesthetics had changed, our desire was still the same—to be a church for spiritually unresolved people and those dedicated to reach them.  Today, the Brentwood family looks to the future with eagerness as we progress in spreading Jesus’ message to the community and ultimately around the globe.
